A nice early start to the weekend. Went up with Phil in his van all the way
upto Barrow for just after 9 for the Top Mark windsurfing shop in Barrows
windsurfing demo day. John Hibbard was there representing Tushingham sails
and Starbord boards.
Conditions were forecast to be real marginal but to our surprise there was
quite a bit of wind around when we arrived. I rigged up my biggest sail I
had with the big board and likewise for Phil. We set of from the lifeboat
station and sailed round the corner to the mariner where the demo was being
held. Straight away I ditched my old kit and made use of the equipment that
was on Demo. Tried the Starboard Carve 117 initally with a 7.5m2 sail but
didn't really get on with the board and never got planing. Tried a few
other various boards including some peoples new boards that werent part of
the demo as well. Oops.
I then found the perfect set up for the day and was on a Starboard Carve
144 along with a Tushingham Thunderbird 8.5m sail and was getting loadsa
flat water blasting in practing my gybes which were pretty awful to begin
with but with the help of John Hibbards advice, they gradually improved
throughout the day.
The whole of the Cockerham sands crew turned up with me and Phil, Jeff and
Ian, Chris and his son with Libby takin loadsa good pics and Nick.
Highlight of the day though was the Meat & Potatoe pies from Bill at Top
Mark windsurfing, Credit due there!
All in all, a real good day and completely windsurfed out with about 5/6
hours on the water.
